Just a heads up on some upcoming dance events.
The 2010 Pacific Rim Film Festival has two documentaries on dance:
“Mexican Folkloric Dance” by Olga Najera-Ramirez. I wrote a review of this fantastic film and if you are interested in Mexican culture, this is a must see. Tues, Oct 19 at 7:30, Rio Theatre.
“Those Who Came Before” is a film about Hawaii’s musical heritage. Local hula dance group Te Hau Nui will perform before the film. They will be followed by a musical performance by Keiki Palaka, a youth group featured in the film. This film is a benefit for the Festival. Wed, Oct 20 at 7:00 at the Rio. Tickets are $15.
GaryFest, a tribute concert for local hip-hop dancer Gary Kendall, will include dance performances by his colleagues and friends at the Mello Center in Watsonville, Sat Oct 16 at 7:00. Kendall received national recognition when his dance group Jabbawockeez won the title of America’s Best Dance Crew.
Santa Cruz Raks is holding its Halloween bellydance show on Sun, Oct 17 at 6:60 at Michael’s on Main in Soquel. That should be a blast.
Thrill The World is just around the corner and classes are finishing up for the big day. Look for zombies in unusual places for the next week. THRILL THE WORLD SANTA CRUZ, Saturday, October 23rd, 1:30 to 4:00. Thrill Time: 4:00 and not a second later! Pacific Avenue between Church and Walnut (in front of Rittenhouse Building)
